Letters from Canada - 15 July 2014
Father Mark: Susan and I usually like to get together at a coffee shop in the center of town for both casual and serious talk. But this time, Susan insisted Tom and I meet with her in her office at the Law Firm. She requested that Tom be dressed in his Royal Canadian Mounted Police uniform (RCMP).
At the appointed time, Tom and I entered a large building in the center of town. We were escorted into a plush conference office where we were joined by Susan and another Lawyer of the Firm. Sitting around an oak table, Susan opened the meeting with intros.
Susan: “Father Mark and Officer Tom, I would like both of you to meet James, representing William who is also a client of our Firm and unfortunately William was not available to meet with us today.”
Turning in the direction of William’s attorney James, Susan continued. “James: Father Mark and Officer Tom suspect that William’s daughter is missing and possibly in danger. If some harm should befall Mary, a foul play investigation would entrap her father as a suspect. Officer Tom and Father Mark are aware that a private investigator of questionable standing is also searching for Mary”.
Susan: “In the interest of protecting William and helping Mary, a missing person report should be immediately filed with the RCMP police by Mary’s parents. Officer Tom can help with the logistics in filling out that report. In the meantime Father Mark will be gathering information from Mary’s friends who might be aware of her absents and shed some light on her whereabouts”.
James, Williams attorney thanked everyone for their concern and asked to be always updated on everyone’s progress. He will relay the minutes of this meeting to William. He assured us that William will attend the next meeting.
After James departure from the conference room, Susan continued the discussion about the search for Mary.
Susan: “I am going to recap the events of this story to make sure I understand it somewhat accurately”
Susan: “After church on Sunday, You (Father Mark) play with children (a jumping high five game). The children in turn share with you their family problems. Then You told me You hung around a high school enquiring about a teenager that might be pregnant. Add to that everyone knows about your rendezvous with Bambi, a beautiful mysterious women that appears out of nowhere at Chucks”. Father Mark: “Her name is Ginger!!!”
Susan: “Next You move up and tangle with a powerful banker financier William and his muscle man Vinny, who happens to go by numerous aliases. For now, let’s not go with this story. If we do, You may need a different kind of lawyer and possibly a doctor. We could have dealt with this situation a lot better if you talked to me first”.
Susan: “The first order of business is to pressure William to file a missing person report. In the meantime we need to build a database of public and private organizations that come to the aid of the homeless and the poor in Canada and the U.S. Of course this includes faith base institutions like churches, mosques, synagogues, and temples. To protect those under their care, most of these organizations will not share information about people they help unless they trust the source and the request is backed up by good references like The Salvation Army, Catholic Charities or Hospital Social Workers. So we must make contact and establish a rapport with people that work in these groups”.
Susan: “We can count on Vinny to scout the sleazy parts of our society. When it comes to liquor establishments and strip clubs, Vinny is in his element. But he will also have trouble getting useful information from sources like William’s out of town extended family and reputable charitable aid organizations. That’s where we come in, by establishing a relationship of trust and support with William’s family and groups that help people in distress”.
Susan: “Father Mark: Do you know of anyone that may have talk to Mary before she left home”.
Father Mark: "Her Father recovered from an ankle surgery (golf injury) at Manor Nursing Home and Rehabilitation Center. There he encountered our Linda who enjoyed aggravating and challenging him. During his recovery at the Home, William introduced his daughter to Linda. Now that I recall, I saw Mary volunteer at the Home after her father was released. Tomorrow is my day to visit the residents at Manor Center. I am going to check if Linda is going to be there and talk to her about Mary".
